How much can I claim for removal or rotational travel expenses if I am a trainee in HEE London and KSS?

Please note, relocation is not an allowance.

From 1st April 2021, all trainees can now claim up to £10,000 under the new national relocation guidance.

As this is an increase on the previous allowance of £8000, some trainees who have used their previous allowance will now have access to additional funds. Please note, however, that this should only be for new eligible expenses incurred from 1st April 2021 onwards. No retrospective or previously-rejected claims will be approved.

There was an earlier implementation date of this guidance for trainees who began new training programmes in August 2020. These trainees are able to claim up to £10,000 for eligible expenses from 1st November 2020 onwards.

This limit is for the duration of training from Foundation to CCT, irrespective of training region. If a trainee moves between regions and has previously claimed relocation expenses, their allowance does not reset. Claims of up to £10,000 can be made from FY1 to CCT per trainee when the eligibility criteria provided in the policy is met.

As part of establishing your eligibility to claim, it is the responsibility of the trainee to confirm the new claim does not exceed this limit, therefore it is the trainee’s responsibility to include any previous relocation reimbursements from FY1 onwards and inclusive of all HEE regions.

Please note claiming fraudulently may result in the Employer recouping monies from the individual's salary and a probity referral to the GMC.
