What this article is about
This article explains how to request reasonable adjustments during recruitment.
Who this is for
Applicants who need adjustments for an application, assessment, interview or other recruitment stage.
What you need to know
- Reasonable adjustments are intended to reduce barriers and support fair access to recruitment.
- Adjustments may relate to the application process, assessment, interview or communication needs.
- You should request adjustments in your application form wherever possible and as early as possible where it is not.
- You may be asked to provide supporting information.
- Recruitment adjustments are separate from employer workplace adjustments and training adjustments after appointment.
- Approval of an adjustment does not guarantee shortlisting, interview or an offer.
What to do
- Read the recruitment guidance for how to request adjustments.
- Identify the adjustment you need and which recruitment stage it applies to.
- Submit your request through the published route before the deadline.
- Provide supporting information if requested and ensure that the evidence provided corresponds with the adjustment you request.
- Check any confirmation carefully.
- Contact the recruitment support route promptly if the adjustment has not been confirmed or applied.
- If you are appointed, discuss any ongoing workplace or training needs through the relevant employer or training route.
If this does not work
If an adjustment has not been applied, raise this immediately through the recruitment support route. If the issue relates to an interview or assessment taking place soon, make the urgency clear.
Who to contact
Use the recruitment support route for recruitment adjustment queries. Use the PGMDE Support Portal for training-related adjustment queries after appointment where applicable.
