What this article is about
This article explains what usually happens after an IDT has been approved and accepted.
Who this is for
Doctors in training who have accepted an IDT offer and are waiting for local placement information.
What you need to know
- After a conditional offer is accepted, transfer information is shared with the receiving region.
- The receiving specialty team will use this information to discuss start date and placement details.
- Local teams may need to liaise with your current region to transfer training records.
- Placement arrangements must align with available posts, programme requirements and rotation dates.
- Your training record must be updated to reflect the transfer.
- You should not assume that your placement location is confirmed until the receiving region confirms it.
What to do
- Accept the conditional offer within the deadline if you wish to proceed.
- Wait for the receiving region or specialty team to contact you.
- Respond promptly to requests for information.
- Discuss your start date and placement details once contacted.
- Keep your current region informed as required.
- Make sure you understand any employer, payroll or onboarding actions you must complete.
If this does not work
If you no longer wish to transfer, tell the receiving region and the national IDT team as soon as possible. If you cannot start within the agreed transfer window, you may need to apply again in a future window.
Who to contact
Use the contact route provided by the receiving region once they have contacted you. If you have not yet been contacted, use the IDT query route on the PGMDE Support Portal.
