IDT timelines: windows, deadlines and when you will hear back

Modified on Tue, 8 Sep at 10:10 AM

What this article is about
This article explains how IDT timelines work and why applications must follow published national windows.

Who this is for
Doctors in specialty training who are planning to apply for an IDT or are waiting for an outcome.

What you need to know

  • IDT applications are considered during defined national application windows.
  • Application windows and transfer dates are published in advance.
  • Transfers normally align with recognised rotation or changeover dates.
  • A transfer cannot be assumed until the national process has completed and formal information has been issued.
  • If a conditional offer is made, you will usually need to respond within the timescale set out in the offer.
  • Local placement discussions normally take place only after transfer information has been received by the relevant regional teams.

What to do

  1. Check the published dates for the IDT application window.
  2. Submit your application before the deadline.
  3. Monitor your email regularly after the window closes.
  4. Respond to any conditional offer within the deadline given.
  5. Wait for local teams to contact you after the transfer information has been issued.
  6. Do not resign from posts, relocate or make firm arrangements until your transfer is formally confirmed.

If this does not work
If you miss a deadline, your application or offer may not progress. If you no longer wish to transfer, you should inform the relevant team as soon as possible.

Who to contact
Use the IDT query route on the PGMDE Support Portal for national process queries.
