Modified on Tue, 8 Sep at 10:16 AM

What this article is about
This article explains what to do if you are unhappy with an IDT decision or how your application has been handled.

Who this is for
Doctors in training who have applied for IDT and want to query, complain about or appeal a decision.

What you need to know

  • You should first read the decision or outcome information carefully.
  • Some issues may be resolved through a query if there has been a misunderstanding or missing information.
  • Complaints and appeals must follow the published process and timescales.
  • You should explain clearly what decision or process you are challenging.
  • You should provide relevant evidence and avoid sending information that is not needed.

What to do

  1. Review the outcome information and application guidance.
  2. Identify whether you are raising a query, a complaint about process, or an appeal where an appeal route is available.
  3. Set out clearly your name, GMC number or professional registration number, specialty and training level, application window, the decision you are querying, why you believe the decision or process should be reviewed, and what outcome you are seeking.
  4. Submit your query, complaint or appeal through the published route.
  5. Keep a copy of your submission.

If this does not work
If your issue is not within the IDT process, you may be redirected to another team, such as your current training region, employer or relevant national recruitment support route.

Who to contact
Use the IDT query route on the PGMDE Support Portal. If you are directed to a specific complaints or appeals route, follow that route.

What HET can and cannot help with
HET can help with

  • Responding to local process queries where HET is involved.
  • Explaining local placement steps after a transfer is approved.
  • Directing you to the correct route if your query is not local.

HET cannot help with

  • Acting outside the published complaints or appeals process.
  • Overturning national IDT decisions outside the correct route.
  • Providing legal advice.
  • Confirming outcomes before a review has been completed.
