What this article is about
This article explains what normally happens after you accept a training offer and before you start.
Who this is for
Applicants who have accepted a training offer and are preparing to start a postgraduate medical or dental training programme.
What you need to know
- Accepting an offer is not the final step before starting training.
- Your information may be transferred from recruitment systems to HET and employer systems.
- You may need to complete training registration actions before starting.
- Your employer will carry out separate employment, HR, occupational health, right to work, payroll and contract processes.
- HET registration and employer onboarding are separate processes.
- You must keep your contact details up to date and respond to requests for information.
- If your circumstances change, you should tell the relevant team as soon as possible.
What to do
- Read all offer and new starter communications carefully.
- Complete any offer acceptance, pre-employment and registration actions by the stated deadlines.
- Check your personal details, professional registration number and contact information are correct.
- Respond promptly to requests from HET, recruitment teams or your employer.
- Tell the relevant team if your start date, visa status, contact details or ability to take up the post changes.
- Keep copies of confirmation emails and registration information.
- Do not assume your placement, employer or start arrangements are final until confirmed.
If this does not work
If you do not receive expected new starter information, or cannot access the registration route, raise a query and include your full name, programme, specialty, accepted post and expected start date.
Who to contact
Use the PGMDE Support Portal for HET training registration queries. Contact your employer for employment checks, contract, rota, payroll and occupational health queries. Use the recruitment support route for unresolved recruitment-stage queries.
What HET can and cannot help with
HET can help with
- Creating or updating local training records.
- Supporting training registration.
- Checking local training data where information appears missing or incorrect.
- Directing you to the correct route if your query relates to recruitment or employment.
HET cannot help with
- Completing employer pre-employment checks.
- Issuing contracts of employment.
- Confirming payroll, rota or occupational health arrangements.
- Guaranteeing a preferred placement or employer.
