International, for the purposes of study leave, is defined as those events taking place outwith the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland and should be considered by exception and only where the event or learning cannot be obtained in the United Kingdom.

Where international courses are not explicitly identified in the approved lists, they will be aspirational in nature. They should be approved by your training programme director in the first instance. The relevant Head of Speciality School will approve thereafter, providing there is sufficient funding available and that you have been achieving any mandatory requirements of your curriculum. You should not book events or travel until you have received approval from your Head of School. You will receive funding towards the event or travel but not both and you will be expected to contribute a proportion of the cost.
