International, for the purposes of study leave, is defined as those events taking place outwith the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland.
Where international courses are not explicitly identified in the approved lists, they will be aspirational in nature. They should be approved by your training programme director in the first instance. The relevant Head of Speciality School will approve thereafter, providing there is sufficient funding available and that you have been achieving any mandatory requirements of your curriculum. You should not book events or travel until you have received approval from your Head of School.
Please also note that the study leave budget will only cover conference fees/course fees where it is demonstrated that the event links to the relevant curriculum and you have had a paper accepted or the opportunity to present. Travel, hotel and subsistence costs will not be met by the study leave budget.
