Trainees who have not been able to transfer due to lack of suitable vacant posts will have to re-apply when the next transfer window opens.

Unfortunately we are unable to operate a waiting list system as the proliferation of waiting trainees would soon overtake the new applications we receive in each window. Currently, we find posts for between 48% and 55% of eligible trainees (though in the February window we managed almost 70%). We are always trying to increase this percentage and will look at waiting list systems we could use in the future if this percentage increases. We feel the best way to give all doctors a fair and equal chance is to treat each window as wholly separate from the last. This ensures consistency for all trainees within each window and also ensures that trainee’s personal circumstances are current each time an application is submitted.
